The Sacramento Valley AIDS Run/Walk is preparing to have over 2,000 runners/walkers/volunteers supporting the cause of HIV/AIDS. As we get closer and closer to the day of the event, it's important to understand that HIV/AIDS is still a problem and has not left despite receiving less media exposure than it has in the past. According to the CDC, Sacramento is one of the areas in California most affected by HIV/AIDS with about 5,000 active cases. Additionally, many cases go unreported because of the stigma surrounding the disease or simply a person being unaware of their status.
Events like the Sacramento Valley AIDS Run/Walk aim to help people living with HIV/AIDS and to educate people about the disease and how they can prevent it. We can prevent new infections and improve the lives of those living with the disease. Come out and have fun for a great cause--walk, run, or cheer and take a step toward improving the Sacramento region.
The 2010 AIDS Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the West Steps of the Capitol building. We hope to see you there. Register today and save lives through the SVARW site. |
